What to Check Before Hiring a Digital Agency in Lahore

What to Check Before Hiring a Digital Agency in Lahore

If you run a business in Lahore — a restaurant, a clinic, a shop or a salon — hiring a digital agency is a real decision. The wrong choice costs money and months. Before you sign anything, check these seven things, and watch for the red flags at the end.

1. Start with your goal, not with the agency

An agency cannot help you if you do not know what you need. Before you talk to anyone, write down one clear goal in a sentence: more customers finding you on Google, a website that explains your services and collects enquiries, regular social media posts, or ads that bring in orders and bookings.

If an agency explains how its work connects to your goal, that is a good sign. If it starts selling a package first, that is not.

2. Check their past work — properly

Every agency says it does good work. Ask to see it, and check whether it fits businesses like yours. A restaurant website should be easy to read on a phone, with the menu, location and phone number easy to find. A clinic’s page should explain its services in plain words, not jargon.

Ask who the client was and what the agency actually did. Vague answers with nothing to show are a warning sign.

3. Ask who will actually do the work

This is the question most business owners forget to ask. Will the person you meet do the work, or will it be passed to someone else? Will your website, posts or ads be handled by one person, or by a different person every month? And who will you talk to when something goes wrong — a named person, or a general support number?

You need not know everyone’s name on day one, but you should know who is responsible for the work.

4. Check what is actually included

Two quotes can look similar and mean very different things. One may include the website, the content, the basic SEO and the contact form; the other may include only the design, with everything else charged separately.

Before you compare prices, ask for a written list of what is included: how many pages, posts or ads, and for how long; whether content is included; whether basic SEO, mobile layout and speed are included; what happens after launch; and who owns the website, domain and accounts. If an agency cannot put the scope in writing, do not sign.

5. Ask how they will report to you

You should not have to chase an agency to find out what they did. Ask how often they will report, and what the report will show.

A useful report is simple: what was done this month, what changed, and what happens next. For a website, that might be visitors and enquiries; for ads, what was spent and what it brought in — not just clicks. Be careful of reports that only show numbers that always look good, with no explanation. If you cannot understand the report, it is not helping you.

6. Read the contract before you sign it

A contract protects both sides, but only if you read it. Check how long the agreement is, what happens if you want to leave, any notice period or early-exit charges, what exactly you will pay and when, and who owns the work — the website, content, ad accounts and passwords.

Never sign a contract you have not read, and never agree to a price that is only given verbally. If something is unclear, ask for it in writing before you sign.

7. Compare quotes fairly

The cheapest quote is not always the cheapest job. A low quote that leaves out content, SEO or after-launch support can cost more later than a higher quote that includes them.

To compare fairly, compare the same scope. Send every agency the same short brief — your goal, the pages or services you need, and whether you have your content ready — and ask each one what is included, what is not, and what would be charged separately. Then compare more than price: the work they showed you, the person who will do it, and how clearly they explained it. Clear explanations before you pay usually mean clear communication after you pay.

Red flags to avoid

Walk away, or at least slow down, if you see any of these:

  • A promise of a guaranteed number-one ranking on Google, or a fixed number of customers by a fixed date. No honest agency can guarantee that.
  • Pressure to sign today, with a discount that disappears tomorrow.
  • No past work to show, or work shown that belongs to someone else.
  • A quote with no written scope — just a price and a promise.
  • No clear answer to who does the work, who owns the accounts, or how reporting works.

One red flag alone may just be a bad answer; two or three together mean you should look elsewhere. Make sure you can answer every question in sections 1 to 7 before you sign, not after.
