When someone searches for “plumber near me” or “web design company in Lahore”, Google usually shows a map with three businesses before the normal results. That box is called the local pack, and for many small businesses it brings in more calls than the website itself.
The good news is that ranking there is not about having the biggest budget. It comes down to a handful of things you can control. Here is how we approach local SEO for our clients, step by step.
What local SEO actually means
Local SEO is the work of making your business show up when people nearby search for what you offer. Google decides who appears in the map results based on three broad things:
- Relevance: how well your business matches what the person searched for.
- Distance: how close you are to the person searching, or to the area they named.
- Prominence: how well known and trusted your business looks online.
You cannot change distance, but you can improve relevance and prominence a lot.
Step 1: Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile (previously called Google My Business) is the listing that appears in Maps and in the local pack. If you only do one thing from this guide, do this properly.
- Claim and verify your profile using an email address your business will keep long term.
- Choose the most accurate primary category. “Digital marketing agency” and “Website designer” lead to very different searches, so pick the one that matches what most customers want from you, then add a few secondary categories.
- Write a clear description that explains what you do, who you help and where, in plain language.
- Add your opening hours, phone number, website and the areas you serve.
- Upload real photos of your office or shop, your team at work and examples of what you deliver.
- List your main services or products with short descriptions.
Step 2: Keep your name, address and phone number consistent
Google cross-checks your business details across the web. If your website shows one phone number, your Facebook page shows an old one and a directory lists a different address, Google becomes less confident about you.
Pick one exact format for your business name, address and phone number (often called NAP) and use it everywhere: your website footer and contact page, your Google Business Profile, your social profiles and every directory you are listed on.
Step 3: Build a steady flow of genuine reviews
Reviews influence both your ranking and whether people actually choose you. A listing with recent, detailed reviews is far more convincing than one with a few old ones.
- Ask every happy customer for a review, ideally right after you finish the job, when they are most pleased.
- Make it easy with a short link or QR code that opens the review form directly.
- Reply to every review, good or bad, politely and quickly. A calm, helpful reply to a complaint often reassures new customers.
- Never buy reviews or post fake ones. It breaks Google’s rules, can get your listing suspended, and customers can usually tell.
Step 4: Make your website support your local listing
Your website and your Google Business Profile work as a team. Google looks at your site to understand what you do and where you do it.
- Mention your city and service areas naturally on your homepage, contact page and service pages.
- Create a separate page for each main service instead of listing everything on one page. A page focused on “SEO services in Lahore” has a much better chance of ranking for that search than a general services page.
- Show your full address, phone number and opening hours on your contact page, and embed a Google Map.
- Make sure the site loads fast and works well on mobile, because most local searches happen on phones.
- Add structured data (schema) that tells Google your business name, location and contact details in a format it can read easily.

Step 5: Get listed in the right places
Mentions of your business on other trusted websites, often called citations, help Google confirm that you are real and active. Start with the obvious ones: Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and the well-known business directories in your country and industry.
Quality matters more than quantity. A handful of accurate listings on respected sites is better than hundreds of low-quality ones.
Step 6: Stay active on your profile
Treat your Google Business Profile like a small social channel. Post updates about new services, offers or recent projects, add fresh photos every few weeks and answer questions people ask on your listing. Regular activity shows Google, and customers, that the business is open and engaged.
How to tell if it is working
Local SEO takes time. It usually takes a few months before you see a clear difference. Track progress with the free tools Google gives you:
- The performance section of your Google Business Profile shows how many people found you, called you, asked for directions or visited your website.
- Google Search Console shows which searches bring people to your website and where you rank.
- Ask new customers how they found you. It is simple, but it works.
The short version
Complete your Google Business Profile, keep your details consistent everywhere, collect genuine reviews, give each service its own page and stay active. None of it is complicated, but it does need consistency.
